Bow tie designs turned into a painting!

Bow tie designs turned into a painting!

Earlier this year I worked on some hand painted floral bow tie designs for a wedding customer. In fact I actually blogged about it here. I then had a request from a different customer to create a version of the design painted on to a large canvas. Here's a visual timeline of how it all unfolded, which included me trying but failing to learn how to paint 'properly' from Youtube. I ended up using my usual method of trial and error and experimentation and was super happy with the end result!!

Finally got my brother wearing an Edward Kwan bow tie!

Finally got my brother wearing an Edward Kwan bow tie!

I’ve only been running Edward Kwan for 4.5 years and this was my brother’s first time wearing one of my bowies ... and only because he was a groomsman… “Does this look stupid?” Haha. I was excited to work on the bow ties for my brothers’ close friends’ wedding (also my friends), as well as to provide excellent customer service by turning up before the wedding to tie the boys’ bow ties as none of them knew how to tie a bow tie.

I was super excited to see Anthony the Blue Wiggle and the Wiggles musicians dressed in their Edward Kwan green velvet bow ties on Lachy the Purple Wiggle, and Emma the Yellow Wiggle's Instagram pages this weekend! I started Edward Kwan for a creative outlet while in law school and couldn't be prouder to see how it has progressed over the years!

My latest favourite hand painted order

My latest favourite hand painted order

I have loved watching my side business, Edward Kwan, grow organically over the years. The most rewarding part of it has been the growing popularity of my hand painted orders. One of my friends from law school recently contacted me to order a bow tie and pocket square to attend a wedding on the weekend. While I'm completely happy to design something specific to my customers' requirements, I also love it when my customer says they are happy to be guided by me and for me to use my creative freedom to come up with a design!

All about the paint!

All about the paint!

It has been way too long since I wrote a blog post! It has been a busy couple of months which have involved starting a new job as an associate to a Supreme Court Judge, signing Edward Kwan up to a new online fashion platform connecting independent Australian designers to customers worldwide (watch this space!) and painting bowies. Sometimes when you get an idea, you just know it's going to work. Giving my blog a stalk, I realised the first time I thought of painting a bow tie was exactly 2 years ago.
