Ink paintings

Ink paintings

I haven’t been painting actual paintings much recently and have been focussing on the bow ties and hand painted bow ties aspect of Edward Kwan (which in fairness is the main aspect of my business), but after I posted one of my previous paintings on Instagram I’ve had a couple of paintings customers! I am really in my element and can zone out and just focus on the art when I work on paintings. This painting is for Ailsa, who actually visited my apartment recently and saw a couple of my ink paintings that I have for myself, so decided she wanted one for herself.

I recently completed my biggest hand painted bow tie order to date and for my third corporate client this year! My client is a medical devices company and wants to gift hand painted bow ties to its surgeon clients because surgeons love to wear bow ties. New York wedding

I recently completed a big hand painted wedding order of 21 bow ties and one hair bow for my customer from New York!! We were under a bit of time pressure with her wedding being early November so I worked hard every morning from 5.30am before going off to my day job as lawyer and the bow ties are now safely in my customer’s hands in New York.

But I always find a solution and decided to experiment by hand painting the flowers on navy blue cotton instead of the usual white cotton. The result was preetttyyy nice!

Bow tie designs turned into a painting!

Bow tie designs turned into a painting!

Earlier this year I worked on some hand painted floral bow tie designs for a wedding customer. In fact I actually blogged about it here. I then had a request from a different customer to create a version of the design painted on to a large canvas. Here's a visual timeline of how it all unfolded, which included me trying but failing to learn how to paint 'properly' from Youtube. I ended up using my usual method of trial and error and experimentation and was super happy with the end result!!

Finally got my brother wearing an Edward Kwan bow tie!

Finally got my brother wearing an Edward Kwan bow tie!

I’ve only been running Edward Kwan for 4.5 years and this was my brother’s first time wearing one of my bowies ... and only because he was a groomsman… “Does this look stupid?” Haha. I was excited to work on the bow ties for my brothers’ close friends’ wedding (also my friends), as well as to provide excellent customer service by turning up before the wedding to tie the boys’ bow ties as none of them knew how to tie a bow tie.
