beautiful arms + upper body online course

BALLET HONESTLY MAKES ME FEEL BEAUTIFUL ✨ And it can make you feel beautiful too - even if you have never learnt ballet before and don’t believe you ever could (but secretly have always wanted to since you were a child)! Even if you spend 12 hours a day working in front of the computer and have no time for hobbies. Even if you’re a bit older and don’t feel physically strong enough for intense exercise.

It’s not the legs and pointed feet and multiple turns that make me feel beautiful. It’s the arms and upper body and feeling the music and expressing my movement to the music.

And anyone can do this! Not everyone can lift their legs high or point their feet amazingly or do multiple turns and difficult jumps, but everyone can learn the arms and feel the music. And feel beautiful!

And this is why I have FINALLY made my ‘BEAUTIFUL ARMS + UPPER BODY ONLINE COURSE’. 🕊

This course is suitable for all adults - Seniors 65+, Absolute Beginner-Intermediate adult ballet students, people who don’t want to fully learn ballet (with all the legs and feet and flexibility etc) but want to experience the beauty of ballet, those who want to develop nice ballet posture.

It is all about beautiful arms, upper body and the music. It includes 6 modules covering: Stretches; Ballet fundamentals for port de bras (carriage of the arms) and epaulement (positioning of the shoulders, head and neck); Strength/conditioning exercises; Some basic ballet steps (including involving the legs and feet); Vaganova port de bras; and Longer port de bras enchaînements.

I recommend working through this course once in the order it is set in, especially if you are new to ballet. You don’t have to complete it all in one session though.

After you have done that, then feel free to work through and repeat the modules in any order you like! If you only have a spare 5 minutes, then you can just practise one port de bras exercise! And the good thing is, because it mostly just involves your arms and upper body, you don’t have to be all warmed up to jump straight in.

What you need for the course:

A Google Drive account to access the course content

As much space as you have at home, but for this online course you don’t need too much since we aren’t using our legs much or travelling steps too much

Also since we aren’t using our legs much or travelling steps too much, it’s not so important what type of floor you are on. Usually for ballet I recommend doing it on floorboards or tiles at home, but carpet will be ok for this course.

Activewear and socks

A chair to use as a barre (or you can use your kitchen bench)

My videos are uploaded in HD 1080p but will require a stable internet connection and up to date browser to view them in high quality.

What is in the course:

You will have access to the course on Google Drive for 12 months. You can also download the videos.

Total video course content is 2.5 hours long and the content is designed for you to watch and practise with and learn over and over and over. There is also a 3-page booklet with photos of some of the basic ballet positions.

The course includes detailed written instructions of how to use the course, and I also flag which exercises are ‘Easy level’ and which exercises are slightly more difficult with the use of legs. The majority of the exercises are ‘Easy level’ though and able to be followed by all students.

After you purchase, you will receive an email from Google Drive within 24 hours giving you access to the course. Please check your junk mail or email me at zara@kwanstudio.com.au if you don’t receive it!

Meet your teacher, Zara Lim

I trained full-time at the Australian Ballet School (ABS) under the guidance of Irina Konstantinova, Lisa Pavane, Tang Xiuyun and Wang Jiahong.

During my 4 years at ABS, I had the privilege to perform in Swan Lake Act II, in Leigh Rowles' Nutcracker, Coppélia and in Morning Melodies. I also had the opportunity to extra with the Australian Ballet.

However, instead of completing my studies at ABS, I decided to move into law. I hold a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Bachelor of Arts (Chinese, French) from La Trobe University. Over a 5-year period, I worked as a commercial litigation and intellectual property lawyer at both global and boutique law firms (K&L Gates and Aptum), and also served as associate to the honourable Associate Justice Efthim at the Supreme Court of Victoria.

In 2021, I came full circle and returned to my first love, ballet. As well as running my own adult ballet classes, I have taught ballet to children since 2022, first at the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet under director Christine Walsh AM, which is now Australian Academy of Classical Ballet, under directors Jenna Roberts and Joe Caley. I have completed my teacher training for junior levels under the Ballet Conservatoire syllabus (Russian Vaganova) and am also a qualified teacher for Progressing Ballet Technique (ballet-specific strength conditioning method).

I am passionate about teaching ballet to both adults and children, and bring well-rounded and varied life experience to my teaching! After many years away from ballet, I have very muchly rekindled my love for ballet, and train multiple times a week myself with Adrian Dimitrievitch and Sakura Shimizu. I find it meditative and believe everybody should be able to participate in ballet!

If you would like to view videos of me dancing so you can see who is going to teach you, as well as footage of the classes, I have plenty at instagram.com/zaramlim.
